Actress Carla Abellana reposted an appeal by a non-profit organization asking for individuals who are interested to adopt impounded dogs scheduled to be euthanized.
Pawssion Foundation, a group of dog advocates based in Bacolod, announced that 30 impounded dogs in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan will be subjected to euthanasia if they are not adopted on April 10, Wednesday.
The organization mentioned that they have already secured a temporary shelter for the dogs but adoption fees are another story.
“Bulacan City requires 500 pesos adoption fee per dog and all 30 dogs would amount to 15,000 unless you know people from there who can adopt the dog themselves and pay for the 500 per dog,” an excerpt of their post reads.
Pawssion Foundation founder Malou Perez shared in an interview that the government has “very improper,” but not illegal, means of euthanasia if a dog is not adopted.
“One very traumatic experience for me happened during our second or third rescue operation here in Bacolod where upon our arrival at the pound, there were already police officers ready to shoot the dogs. There was already a [dug up] hole in the area,” she said.
Euthanasia of animals through shooting is legal in the Philippines, provided that they are performed by the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines or any other law enforcement agencies.
Those who are interested to help Pawssion Foundation adopt the dogs or adopt one themselves may donate through the organization’s accounts:
