The book sale, touted as the biggest in the world, will take place at the World Trade Center, Pasay City from February 22 to March 4, 2019.

The admission will be free and it is open 24 hours. The books are offered at around 50 to 90 percent discount prices.

Bookworms also look forward to the annual Manila International Book Fair, a week-long book fair held every September.

For non-readers

The founders of Big Bad Wolf are Andrew Yap and Jacqueline Ng, also owners of a popular bookstore chain in Malaysia called Book Xcess.

To attract non-readers is the main goal, Ng said in an interview at Malaysia Tatler.

“Our target is very different from that of bookstores, which attempt to attract readers. We aspire to attract non-readers. Readers will naturally gravitate towards books. The challenge is how to pique curiosity among the less literate,” she said.

Meanwhile, Yap explained that they make their books affordable to promote a culture of reading to a wider audience.

What they offer are called remaindered books or the “remaining” 20 percent that a publisher did not sell to regular book stores.

“It’s always to make a difference and we wanted to do a business that is meaningful,” he said.

Yap and Ng first established Book Xcess in 2006 and then organized the first Big Bad Wolf Book Sale in the state of Selangor in Malaysia.

Soon, they expanded to neighbor countries Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh and the Philippines.

Organizers of the big book event also visited the cities of Cebu and Davao in 2018.
