Filipino-Romanian Sofia Loren Deliu, who is a member of the Presidential Security Group, will replace Christopher “Bong” Go as the chief executive’s new aide.

President Rodrigo Duterte in a speech during the conferment of the Philippine Quality Awards at Malacañang said, “Ito ang pumalit kay Bong, tumindig ka nga.”

He was gesturing to Deliu, who immediately stood up from her position and acknowledged the crowd with a wave.

Duterte clarified, however, that she would not hold the title of the Special Assistant to the President. Instead, Deliu will only perform some of Go’s responsibilities.

The ‘beauty queen cop’

Sofia Deliu is a graduate of Tourism Management from Saint Louis University in Baguio. She has been modeling since she was 14-years-old.

She decided to enroll at the Philippine National Police Academy in 2006 after being shortlisted among the 16 females out of over 3,000 PNPA applicants.

Deliu also joined two beauty pageants that earned her the moniker “beauty queen cop” — Miss Teen Philippines in 2006 and Miss Baguio in 2008.

She decided to enter public service when she joined the police force in 2014.

Deliu was assigned to PNP’s Regional Office 1 where she held the position of a chief supply officer of the PNP Regional Public Safety Battalion.

It is the supporting unit of the Special Weapons and Tactics and police rescue operations.

In 2015, Deliu entered the pageant scene once again and joined Miss Earth Philippines, where she represented Baguio and landed as one of its semi-finalists.

She revealed her desire to “actively implement environmental activities” while pursuing her duty as a police officer.

According to Deliu, she “would like to strengthen the enforcement of the existing environmental laws and encourage active participation of the people in environmental protection activities.”

She eventually became a Public Information Officer at the San Fernando Provincial Police Office and a television host of “Pulis @ Ur Serbis,” a PNP-oriented program at the UNTV News and Rescue.

Deliu married her PNPA classmate Abdul Bassar Abdurajak early in 2018 and invited Duterte to be one of their principal sponsors. The chief executive remarked that she should leave PSG and lead a normal life with her husband so that they could have children.
