“Go Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings!”

United States to the Philippines Ambassador Mary Kay Carlson expressed this on Twitter in support of the Philippine team during the final game of the PBA Commissioners Cup on January 15.

The PBA Commissioner’s Cup is one of the long-running competitions or conferences of the Philippine Basketball Association.

Game 7 of the 2023 Season took place at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

During the match, Carlson tweeted photos of her wearing the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel jersey shirt while viewing the much-anticipated conclusion of the league.

She was wearing jersey number 32, sported by American-born import Justin Donta Brownlee.

In the tweet, she also expressed support for the Philippine team.

“Go Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings! Rooting for you to take the @PBAconnect Commissioner’s Cup championship,” the ambassador said.

Ginebra fans later thanked Carlson for her support via the quote retweets and replies.

This PBA series, meanwhile, was among the most talked about sports-related topics among fans throughout the series.

The finals game at the arena garnered the highest number of spectators in PBA history—a record crowd of 54,589 people.

Keywords related to the game also gained buzz on social media. These include “Ginebra”, “Philippine Arena”, “Bay Area Dragons” and “PBA Finals Game 7”.

The Gin Kings defeated the foreign team Hong Kong’s Bay Area Dragons with a score of 114-99 last Sunday night.
