Philippines dominates arnis world championship

The Philippines claimed the overall championship in the 16th World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation World Championship held in Mandaue City, Cebu from July 17 to 21.

The Philippine team, composed of the Philippine National Arnis Team and other local teams reaped 141 gold medals, 139 silver medals, and 138  bronze medals.

Annjeanette Brillantes, Jude Rodriguez and Kate Iccy Solis led the combined elements of the Philippine team with each three gold medals and one silver medal. They are also tied in the first place for the top individuals.

Philippines’ Bryze Danielle Manaytay, Anthony Cris Luna and Dexler also included in the top athletes.

Team USA, the previous overall champion, placed second with 21 golds, 21 silver, and 47 bronze medals. 

They were followed by South Korea in third place, bagging three golds, three silvers, and nine bronze medals.

Over 400 athletes from 11 different countries took part in the world championships.

Arnis will be included in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia as one of the sports in Category III.

This will be the third time the sport will be included in the regional tournament.
