Amidst the deafening cheers and shrieks from the Ginebra fans, Justin Brownlee couldn’t do anything but just support the Gin Kings at this time.
The two-time PBA champion arrived late in the second half of the Gin Kings’ Friday night encounter with the Blackwater Elite and could only watch from nearby the team’s seat.
Brownlee is still under contract playing for the Alab Pilipinas squad in the Asean Basketball League and will have to wait until the second conference to reinforce the Gin Kings anew.
“Man, I can’t wait,” Brownlee told InterAksyon.com in an exclusive interview.
While it pains seeing his team lose to Blackwater, Brownlee believes it’s only a matter of time before the Gin Kings shake off the hangover from its Governors’ Cup championship run last year.
“It could be. But these guys, they love to win. They always wanted to win multiple championships and I don’t think those guys would be satisfied winning one or two,” he said.
“When you get used to winning, you tend to relax a little bit. But winning a championship, I guess by human nature, you probably would want to win more championships and not get satisfied.”
For now, Brownlee is helping Alab Pilipinas’ campaign in the ASEAN Basketball League, a testament to his desire to come back to the Philippines whenever there’s an opportunity.
“This is not necessarily a preparation (for the PBA). I just love playing basketball, especially in the Philippines. It’s been great playing basketball here and I love the fans. They’re right there, that’s what I came back for the ABL,” added Brownlee.
