San Miguel Beermen’s Grand Slam aspirations may have ended in a whimper, but that won’t stop them from chasing another historic feat.
After getting booted out by sister team Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings, the Beermen are setting their sights for an unprecedented fourth straight Philippine Cup next season.
No other team in PBA history has able to win four straight All-Filipino titles.
First step for San Miguel is to bolster its squad with quality players in the upcoming PBA Draft.
“We’ll plan on how can we improve our team more,” SMB team manager Gee Abanilla said. “I think there’s enough talent in the coming draft, particularly in the first round.”
San Miguel is picking late in the draft, owing to its respectable finish this season. The team has won two of the three championships this season.
For his part, team captain Arwind Santos said the Philippine Cup is the most valuable conference among the three tournaments in a season and he will come out more determined to help the Beermen win another title.
“Para sa akin kasi ito ang pinakaimportante sa lahat ng conferences. Lalo kaming magsisikap para makuha ito and hopefully, makakuha ulit ng history,” he said.
