Potential top overall pick Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger has drawn comparisons to the “Pinoy Sakuragi” Marc Pingris due to his hustle and hardwork on the floor.
Pingris understands where people are coming from.
“Masipag eh, malaki rin at tsaka gwapo rin,” Pingris said in jest.
But Pingris likened the 6-foot-8 center’s style of play to another player known for his tenacity in the basketball court: Calvin Abueva.
“Mukhang ito na yung papalit kay Abueva sa sipag. Pero future talaga ito,” Pingris said.
“Tingin ko siya yung tipong tatagal sa PBA dahil mayroon siyang depensa tsaka rebound. Future talaga siya.”
Pingris said Standhardinger is the logical choice as the No.1 pick in the upcoming Rookie Draft.
“Kung ako ang coach, siya ang una kong kukunin. Yung tipong ok yung ugali, yung energy niya tapos kumukuha ng rebound,” Pingris said.
“Ang gusto ko sa kanya nung pinapanood ko siya sa Gilas, mabilis siya. Sa height niya mabilis siya. Kaya niya iwan yung malalaking mababagal.”
