Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is showing signs of progress with the return of seven-foot slotman Greg Slaughter and the Gin Kings will have a chance to continue moving up with a win against Kia Picanto on Wednesday.
But if there’s one thing Cone wants his team to avoid, it’s taking their rivals for granted.
“We can’t make the mistake of looking past Kia. They have pulled off some really big upsets and they are well-coached,” Cone told InterAksyon.com.
The winningest mentor in PBA history looks on keeping his team more focused in their game against the Picanto and trying to get better while playing with the comebacking Slaughter.
Slaughter has been solid in the first two games he played with the Gin Kings since he has fully recovered from an ACL tear injury.
He has averaged 16.5 points and 11 rebounds.
To bring back his comfort level, the Gin Kings reverted to playing the triangle offense and Cone is hoping the team can bring up to speed those players who are still trying to get themselves familiar running the structured system.
“We felt we figured some things out in our last game and we’re hoping to follow it up with a solid performance. We’re hoping that every day we’re improving as a team and continuing to adjust to Greg’s presence,” added Cone.
