The Philippine national women’s basketball team failed to sustain its rousing start, running out of gas against South Korea, 91-63, ahead of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup knockout stages on Tuesday at Sree Kanteereva Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru, India.

Against its more fancied foes, Perlas Pilipinas stunned the Koreans right after tip-off, zooming to a 12-4 lead three minutes into the game.

But the Filipinas were sent crashing back to earth by the Koreans who responded with a 15-5 finishing kick to the first period which ended in a 19-all deadlock.

The Koreans then asserted their might against Perlas Pilipinas and established a 44-34 halftime lead before doubling the Filipinas’ output in the third frame, 26-13, to finally pull away.

Allana Lim led the way once again for Perlas Pilipinas with 14 points and six boards. Analyn Almazan added 12 points and four boards.

Despite the loss, Perlas Pilipinas, which went 0-3 in Group B, still moves on to the quarterfinals where it will face either China or New Zealand from Group A on Thursday.
