The Philippine national women’s basketball team tasted another lopsided defeat from a powerhouse squad in the 2017 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup, surrendering to Australia by 42 points, 107-65, on Monday at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru, India.
The match against No.4-ranked Australia came 24 hours after Perlas Pilipinas yielded to No.13-ranked Japan, 106-55, on opening day last Sunday.
Janine Pontejos scored 18 points while Allana Lim added 11 markers for Perlas Pilipinas who, after giving up a 68-23 halftime lead to the Aussies, played much better in the second half.
The Filipinas were able to outscore Australia in the last two quarters, 42-39.
Up next for Perlas Pilipinas is a match against another powerhouse in South Korea on Tuesday to complete their preliminary round campaign.
