The Philippines will be hosting the prestigious World Pool Championship for the next four years starting this October.

Yen Makabenta, former chairman of the Billiards Snooker Congress of the Philippines and head of Raya Sports which brought the tournament several times in the country, confirmed the development to InterAksyon.

“In a few weeks time, the president of the World Pool Association (Ian Anderson) will visit the Philippines,” said Makabenta in a telephone interview.

This year, the event is set on October 22 at the Mall of Asia Arena and for the first time, both the men’s and women’s championships will be held simultaneously.

Participants from 35 countries go head-to-head, with 96 players competing in the men’s division and 48 in the women’s category. The tournament will adopt the 10-ball format.

Several Filipinos have won the event such as pool greats Efren Reyes, Dyango Bustamante, Ronnie Alcano and Rubilen Amit.
