Greg Slaughter excited to get back on court for Ginebra

After being idle for a year, center Greg Slaughter finally returned to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel bench.

Slaughter, who is coming off an ACL injury, didn’t see action in the Gin Kings’ 96-85 win over GlobalPort on Tuesday night. But he is now on Ginebra’s active roster and can be tapped anytime by coach Tim Cone.

“It felt good. To be back in the bench and join my teammates was really an exciting time,” Slaughter told sportswriters.

However, Cone has repeatedly said the team wants Slaughter to fully recover not just physically but mentally. The multi-titled coach believes that activating him will give his premier center the playoff feel as well as “scare” their opponents.

Slaughter said he’s excited to join forces with Japeth Aguilar to Ginebra’s twin tower combination which the team paraded in the past.

“I can’t wait to get back there and help him out and get back the synergy when we were playing together, two dominant bigs out there together,” Slaughter said.

Aguilar felt the same way.

“I’m really excited for him to play,” he said. “But I want him to take his time. Mahirap rin para sa kanya like what happened last season. But I’m excited to see him on the bench. It’s a big help for us.”
