Former La Salle standout Jeron Teng has declared for the PBA Rookie Draft this year, making him a potential No.1 overall pick.

“Yes, definitely papa-draft na ako sa PBA. Wala na rin naman akong gagawin eh,” Teng told InterAksyon. “Naka-send na rin ako ng application.”

With standouts like Ray Parks and Kiefer Ravena still have yet to make a decision, there is little doubt that Teng is so far the best prospect in the draft that will be conducted later this year.

Teng is currently playing for Flying V in the PBA D-League.

Ravena, meanwhile, said he wants to focus first on representing the country in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup this June. He’ll be teaming up with Teng, Kobe Paras and JR Quinahan in the event.

“Iniisip ko pa rin. Parang gusto ko munang i-focus itong World Cup. The draft won’t be until October,” said the former Ateneo star who has been eligible to join the PBA since last year but instead went to the United States to try his luck in the NBA D-League.

“So I guess everybody who is thinking about joining the draft have time to think twice or thrice. Yan naman ang dream ng bawat player, yung makapasok sa PBA. So kailangan mong paghahandaan talaga.

“Hindi ka pwedeng half-hearted at the same time, hindi rin pwedeng hindi ka ready. Kahit sabihin mong gustong gusto mo kung hindi ka naman ready. Kailangan ready ka talaga.”

The NLEX Road Warriors are expected to snare the top pick after their dismal showings in the first two conferences. Coach Yeng Guiao earlier said that Teng, Ravena or Parks are on top of his draft wish list.
