Recovering Terrence Romeo ‘the missing link’ in Gilas practices

The usually explosive Terrence Romeo is still far from being in tip-top condition, and that has affected his performance in practices with the Philippine national men’s basketball team.

Attending Gilas Pilipinas practices means that Romeo, who had a bout with typhoid fever that sidelined him for weeks, has to grind it out against counterparts who are 100 percent in terms of game shape.

“Hindi ko alam kung ilang percent na ako. Pero tingin ko may kalayuan pa,” Romeo said.

Gilas Pilipinas Chot Reyes said that Romeo’s progress has been impeded by his past absences from training.

“That’s the missing link now,” Reyes said. “For you to have progress you have to be present. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been present except for last week, yesterday and today. So that’s going to be the challenge for Terrence he has to overcome. He’s got to be here.”

Many still believe that Romeo is a shoo-in to Gilas’ final lineup for the SEABA Championship, but he knows that making the cut will not be easy given his condition.

“Mga bata tsaka halos lahat kundisyon. Pero makakatulong ito. Marami akong matututunan. Talagang sobrang prepared sila,” he said.
