Russell Westbrook dropped a historic 50-point triple-double but he couldn’t prevent the Oklahoma City Thunder from falling to a 2-0 hole against the Houston Rockets in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs.
Westbrook tallied 51 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds to notch the highest-scoring triple-double in NBA playoffs history.
It was also the first 50-point triple-double in postseason history. Before him, five 40-point triple-double playoff performances have been recorded by Charles Barkley, LeBron James, Oscar Robertson (twice) and Jerry West.
Despite Westbrook making history, the Thunder fell to the Rockets, 115-111, after squandering an early 15-point lead.
“Beastbrook” is no stranger to achieving historic numbers this season. This month, he had surpassed Robertson with the most number of triple-doubles in a regular season with 42, and became the first player since “The Big O” to finish the 82-game schedule with a triple-double average.
Still, the NBA MVP contender shrugged off his latest feat in a typical Westbrook response: “I don’t give a f— about the line. We lost.”
