Rumors of a possible reunion of the Eraserheads had surfaced after two of its former members posted a practice video and a request message on social media.
Both posts teased that this will be a show of support for the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons who will face the defending champion Ateneo de Manila University’s Blue Eages at the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.
The upcoming game is historic for the UP community since it is the first time to be part of the UAAP finals in 32 years.
Former lead guitarist Marcus Adoro previously offered an idea to his former band mates on Instagram to reunite and perform during the halftime of the competition.
“Buuin niyo na pangarap ng buong UP community please?” part of Adoro’s message said.
In the caption, Adoro placed a disclaimer in the caption: “This is not an official statement. Originally FB post. Patawa lang. Relax it’s just an IG post.”
Days later, ex-drummer Raymund Marasigan posted a 30-second video on Twitter showing him, Adoro and Buddy Zabala performing the instrumental version of one of their popular hits “Minsan.” The single is part of their 2004 album titled “Anthology.”
Marasigan said “praktis before game 2” in the caption.
Ex-member Ely Buendia, meanwhile, clarified in a tweet that he was not the man with blonde hair who got included in the frame.
Marasigan previously made a collaborative song with rappers BLKD and Rye to ignite UP fans’ cheers during the sudden-death semi-final match-up between UP Fighting Maroons and Adamson University Soaring Falcons.
The celebrated group has yet to make a formal announcement if it will perform during the game 2 of the tournament, which will take place on December 5, Wednesday.
Celebrating Eraserheads
Marasigan, Adoro, Buendia and Zabala formed Eraserheads in UP when they were still students.
Their first album titled “Ultraelectromagneticpop!” in 1993 became a huge hit. With this takeoff, they continued producing songs that became popular in the Philippines and abroad.
Their popular songs include “Minsan,” “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” “Spolarium,” “Harana,” “Spolarium,” and “With a Smile.”
They also won awards such as International Viewer’s Choice Award for MTV Asia and Awit Award for Dangal ng Musikang Pilipino.
Eraserheads disbanded in 2002 but they continued to perform in smaller concerts.
Last November 2018, they produced their 25th anniversary re-mastered album of their bestselling hits.
