A coalition of family and life organizations, along with similar movements, plans to persuade lawmakers to protect the sanctity of marriage.

A Monday statement announcing the formation of the “Super Coalition Against Divorce” said among their goals is to work together to prevent anti-family and anti-life laws from being passed in Congress.

Organized by the Diocese of Novaliches’ Family and Life Commission, the different lay groups have bonded in their common desire to oppose the legalization of divorce in the country.

“The purpose of this significant gathering was to unify and strategize the collective opposition to the divorce bill being considered by the government,” the diocese said.

“Each group brought unique perspectives and insights, reflecting a broad spectrum of religious and family-oriented organizations committed to preserving the sanctity of marriage,” it added.

The diocese said the coalition’s main focus is to discuss the possible effects of divorce on society, its moral and ethical issues, and to create a unified plan to oppose the measure.

Joining the SCAD are Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, Couples for Christ, Alliance for the Family Foundation Philippines Inc., Live Christ, Share Christ, and Novaliches Ecumenical Fellowship, among others.

On May 22, the House of Representatives approved on final reading the proposed measure on absolute divorce. However, the proposal is still waiting for approval in the Senate.
