Members of the Alpha Phi Omega in UP Diliman mounted their 40th annual Oblation Run with the theme “End Wars, Not Lives” on Friday, December 1, 2017. The activity took place at Palma Hall.
Various chapters of the APO fraternity have also mounted their Oblation Runs in their respective UP chapters.
The tradition started in September 1977 when two members of the fraternity streaked in front of Palma Hall as a symbolic gesture of “baring the ills of martial law and the Marcos regime.”
Today, the naked run continues to serve as an engaging platform for bringing public awareness to pressing national issues, this year’s activity was meant to be a call for the end of drug-related killings, for the government and related organizations to work towards the rehabilitation of Marawi City in Mindanao, for an end to Martial Rule implemented in Mindanao, and for the resumption of peace talks between the government and leftist groups.
