Celebrity chef, TV personality, and author/publisher Anthony Bourdain will be attending this year’s World Street Food Congress 2017 (#WSFC17), to be held in Manila from May 31 to June 4 in the Philippines at the SM MOA Concert Grounds.
The famous chef is set to meet members of media, food vendors, and event partners at a town hall gathering to present updates on his much anticipated Bourdain Market, scheduled to open in New York by 2019.
Apart from the fresh market update, Bourdain is also said to be coming over to look for potential food vendors from the Philippines to join his market, where the projected line-up of 100 world food stalls, will make it the largest of its kind in America.
The New York-based international food market, which they say will be modelled after a Singapore-style hawker-food-court concept, is the result of inspired discussions, distilled over teh tarik and chicken rice with KF Seetoh of WSFC and Makansutra fame. Seetoh has been tapped as consultant and curator for the Bourdain Market.
On his market, Bourdain quips, “Think of an Asian night market—eating and drinking at midnight.”
The WSFC is an event organised by Singapore-based Makansutra (S) Pte Ltd. In fact, it was at the inception of the event in 2013 in Singapore that Bourdain (who was a presenter in the event) first broached the idea of a street food market to KF Seetoh.
The Bourdain Market town hall style gathering is open exclusively to WSF Dialogue ticket holders, which is different from the jamboree proper that houses the food stalls. All others will be on a waiting list and on a first-come-first-served basis. Seats are limited. To secure a seat, kindly register at contact@makansutra.com and participants will be notified.
