The Korean romantic comedy “Perfect Crown” has emerged as a global streaming hit on Disney+, setting a new record for the platform as it heads into its two-episode finale on May 15 and 16.
The streaming platform said the series has become the “most viewed Korean title premiere of all time on Disney+ globally and outside of APAC,” following strong performance across multiple regions including the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific markets such as the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
Since its April 10 debut, the show has logged 43 million hours streamed globally. Episode 8 alone recorded a 43% increase in views compared to the premiere based on a seven-day measurement period.
The series follows Grand Prince I-AN, who becomes caught in a royal succession struggle and enters a marriage of convenience with Huiju, heir to a major Korean conglomerate. As political ambitions collide with personal emotions, their arrangement evolves into a more complicated relationship.
“Perfect Crown” stars IU as Huiju and Byeon Wooseok as Grand Prince I-AN, under the direction of Park Joonhwa, with writing by Yoo Jiwon.
Ahead of the finale, the series has also sparked a strong fan response online, with viewers coining the term “PPCD” or “Post-Perfect Crown Depression.”
The streaming platform said “symptoms of PPCD reportedly include staring at the ceiling after every episode, replaying favorite scenes at 2AM, and refusing to emotionally move on from the characters.”
In response to the fan reaction, Disney+ has rolled out curated watch recommendations designed to help viewers transition after the finale.
Romantic titles include “Would You Marry Me?,” “Doctor on the Edge” and “The Remarried Empress,” while thriller options include “The Manipulated,” “Gold Land” and “A Shop for Killers 2.” Softer, comfort-viewing picks include “Battle of Fates,” “60 Minutes to Love” and “Belly Showdown.”
The first ten episodes of “Perfect Crown” are currently streaming on Disney+ internationally and on Hulu in the United States, with the final two episodes scheduled for release at 10:20 p.m. Philippine time on May 15 and 16.
