Beauty queens as Barbie dolls? Miss Universe Philippines official unveils unique doll collection

A veteran pageant coach unveiled his collection of Barbie dolls representing Pinay beauty queens.

Voltaire TayagMiss Universe Philippines (MUP) director of communications, shared a video showing his custom-made beauty queen Barbie dolls in light of the Miss Universe season.

Tayag shared a video that showed his collection on Instagram on November 10.

“My custom Filipina beauty queen Barbies. Getting ready for @michelledee to join them soon,” he wrote in the caption.

Philippines’ Michelle Dee is currently in El Salvador preparing for the 72nd Miss Universe competition.

The dolls represented these pageant titleholders in their evening gowns:

  • Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray
  • Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco
  • Miss World 2013 Megan Young
  • Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa
  • Miss Universe 2019 Top 20 semifinalist Gazini Ganados
  • Miss Universe 2021 Top 5 semifinalist Beatrice Luigi Gomez
  • Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong

Some of the Filipina queens soon saw this post. They reacted in amazement to the doll’s design and outfits.

“Galing!” Gray commented.

“Amazing V,” Ganados said with heart-eyed emojis.

Other Filipinos also expressed love for his dolls by leaving heart emojis and heart-eyed emojis in the comments section.

Some of them, meanwhile, hoped a Michelle Dee doll would also be added to this shelf.

“MMD’s next… With the MU23 crown,” an Instagram user said.

“Susunod na sa collection si Miss Universe 2023 Michelle Marquez Dee!” another Instagram user commented.

Dee has been making buzz on social media in different activities ahead of this year’s edition of the prestigious pageant.

Should she win the elusive crown, the Makati beauty will be the fifth Filipino to be hailed Miss Universe.

The coronation night will be held in El Salvador on November 19.

Tayag, meanwhile, finished at De La Salle University with degrees in Economics and Marketing.

He then graduated magna cum laude at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, majoring in Fashion Design.

Tayag has been the director of communications of MUP since the organization was launched in 2019.
