To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Martial Law declaration, several groups organized a “bus and walking tour” on September 18.
The tour seeks to raise awareness about the rule of late president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore historical sites related to Martial Law around Metro Manila. They will be guided by young historians.
One of the activities is the “Tallano Gold Treasure Hunt,” where participants will be asked to answer relevant questions and accomplish tasks to deepen their knowledge about the Marcos regime.
The bus tour will house cultural and artistic performances, which include songs that define the Martial Law period, skits, and other interactive activities.
The tour will commence at the Liwasang Diokno Freedom Park in Quezon City.
It will have a stop at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani during lunchtime. Several learning activities will also be conducted at the site.
The tour will conclude at the University of the Philippines-Diliman where a short cultural program awaits the participants.
“The activity aims to provide fun-filled and interactive learning activities to young people who want to learn more about Martial Law history and deepen their appreciation of freedom and democracy,” Akbayan Partylist, one of the organizers, said.
“Isa itong masaya, creative at reflective na road trip ng mga kabataan at estudyante. We will commemorate Martial Law’s 50th year by inviting young people to a profound road trip to the past to affirm its truths and apply their lessons to the present and the future,” Akbayan spokesperson RJ Naguit said.
“Lalabanan natin ang bad trip na fake news, historical revisionism at iba pang kasinungalingan ng road trip ng kasaysayan, katotohanan at katarungan,” Naguit stressed.
The tour is in partnership with the Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation, a monument, museum, and historical research center which honors the martyrs and heroes of the struggle against the Marcos dictatorship.
Other organizers include the Akbayan Youth, the Student Council Alliance of the Philippines, Youth Resist, and the Center for Youth and Advocacy Network.
