“Deadma Walking” star Edgar Allan Guzman has been getting a lot of kudos for his performance as the flamboyant gay best friend of the more reserved character of co-star Joross Gamboa.
In a recent interview with News5, Edgar — or E.A. as he is fondly referred to by friends and fans — revealed that his own gay brother is the inspiration not only for his portrayal of his character in the film but also for every gay role that he plays.
“I love my Kuya very much. He is not aware of it but I observe him a lot every time we’re together, how he’s happy, how he’s sad,” the 29-year-old actor and former Mr. Pogi 2006 of “Eat Bulaga” said in mostly Filipino.
While Joross also received raves for his more restrained performance, E.A. has become the darling of both critics and audiences alike. Not a few have also considered him as a frontrunner for the festival’s Best Actor derby.
InterAksyon’s Wanggo Gallaga, who described E.A.’s performance as “fantastic,” notes that it’s his charm “that really pushes the laughs.” Also reviewing for InterAksyon, Arnel Ramos wrote, “…Edgar Allan strikes not a false note, fully inhabiting the role. He shrieks, he loves, he performs, he seethes, he sizzles.”
In highly recommending the film, radio host Ogie Diaz quipped, “Feeling ko bading talaga yang si Edgar Allan Guzman (I feel that Edgar Allan Guzman is really gay).”
On Twitter, the raves were just as similar.

Known for his intense performances, E.A. previously won the Cinemalaya and Golden Screen Best Actor award for the sexy indie drama, “Ligo na U, Lapit na Me.”
Produced by T-Rex Entertainment and distributed by OctoArts Films, “Deadma Walking” is based on the Palanca-winning screenplay by Eric Cabahug. Directed by Julius Alfonso, the film is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
