Just late last month, volleyball superstar Rachel Ann Daquis surprised everyone when she announced her film debut in the short horror thriller, “Poser.”
Not counting her television guest appearances, the four-minute thriller directed by award-winning cinematographer Eli Balce (“Donsol”) is Rachel’s official acting debut. In the short film, the Cignal-HD Spikers star player portrays a fictionalized version of herself who encounters a stalker trying to impersonate her on social media.
In a recent interview with InterAksyon during Golden Fiesta Canola Oil’s Heart Healthy Camp event where she and several other celebrities participated in several fitness routines and activities, the 29-year-old athlete said that while volleyball remains her top priority, she is very much open to more acting opportunities.
“I’ve already done it with ‘Poser’ but I can’t say that I’ve reached the point of being in serious mode as an actress. But yes, as long as it does not conflict with my volleyball schedule and I only have to do it during the off-season, I’m very open to acting,” she said.
It’s understandable why volleyball remains Rachel’s main focus. Having already won just about every individual and team accolade in the sport, she intends to devote five more years of her life before she even considers retiring.
“As long as you can play, there is no age limit as to how long one can play volleyball,” she pointed out.
Volleyball has also opened many other doors for her including being in the coveted list of FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the country for the last three years which effectively turned her into an overnight celebrity.
And these days, Rachel continues to make headlines for things that don’t necessarily involve her sport. Just a couple of weeks after “Poser” was uploaded on social media, Rachel was revealed to be one of the two cover girls of the latest issue of Popsicle men’s magazine. The digital edition of the free magazine can be accessed in this link: http://bit.ly/2B0muvo.
The issue, which specifically focuses on social media influencers, places emphasis on her strong online presence as evidenced by nearly 800,000 followers on Facebook, 235,000 on Twitter and over 500,000 on Instagram.
As an influencer, Rachel is using her social media clout to motivate people to to be strong and to stay fit by engaging in sports and fitness.
“I was elated by how people supported me and am still overwhelmed by how people have regarded volleyball athletes in general as some of the sexiest in the country. For me, strong is the new sexy. An athletic body combined with a fit uniform certainly makes a volleyball player look a lot more attractive,” she said in her interview with the magazine.
Which is why as much as possible, Rachel never passes up invitations to take part in fitness-geared activities like Golden Fiesta Cooking Oil’s Heart Healthy Camp, which promoted the importance of maintaining an active and heart-healthy lifestyle.
Aside from Rachel, the other celebrities that took part in the event were Solenn Heussaff and husband Nico Bolzico, Ana Roces, Maricar de Mesa, Anton del Rosario, Hillarie Parungao, Angelia Ong, Jaymie Pizarro, Angel Jones, June Macasaet and Sam Ajdani.
