Ralston Jover’s “Bomba” won acting honors in the 33rd Warsaw International Film Festival in Warsaw, Poland.
Lead stars Allen Dizon and Angellie Nicholle Sanoy were both honored with a Special Jury Prize for acting in the prestigious European film festival. In a Facebook post, “Bomba” co-producer and Allen’s manager Dennis Evangelista said that that there were 15 competing films in the main competition with equally fine performances including France’s “If You Saw His Heart” headlined by Chilean actor Gael Garcia Bernal of “Y Tu Mama Tambien” fame.
“There are no acting awards in the festival, and this is the highest award given for performances in the competition section,” Evangelista posted.
Set against the backdrop of extrajudicial killings in the country, “Bomba” is the story of a hard-luck, middle-aged deaf and mute man played by Allen Dizon who has a dark past and is involved in a “taboo relationship” with a 16-year-old girl portrayed by Angellie Nicholle Sanoy. The title refers to the disabled man who, due to a series of misfortunes, is like a ticking bomb ready to explode.
Prior to its world premiere at Warsaw, the film earlier made headlines when it was initially rated X on first review by the Movie and Television Review Classification Board early this month. The producers then appealed and re-submitted the film for review where it subsequently received a more favorable R-13 rating.
Dizon is a seasoned actor who has won numerous acting honors from both international film festivals and local award-winning giving bodies. Sanoy, on the other hand, has been acting on film and television since she was a child.
No announcement has been made for a Philippine theatrical run of “Bomba.”
