It’s all systems go for the much-awaited second season of the hit talent search series, “Asia’s Got Talent” as AXN announces its premiere broadcast this coming October 12 At 8:30PM.
“The region’s favorite entertainment series is back and it’s more mesmerizing, dazzling, spell-binding, and funnier than ever before. The first season of ‘Asia’s Got Talent’ inspired a whole new generation of performers to audition this year and take a shot at their dreams. As a result, AXN viewers can expect a powerful season in both the quality of the acts, as well as the storytelling that supports them,” said Virginia Lim, Senior Vice President and Head of Content, Production and Marketing, Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia.
Following open auditions held in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines from April to May this year, the exciting new season of the hit series that broke regional pay-TV ratings records in 2015 will feature over 165 dynamic acts from 15 countries across the continent.
Season 2 of “Asia’s Got Talent” will play host to a myriad of acts spanning multiple genres including magic, dancing, singing, instrumental, martial and visual arts and some more unusual acts that are too tricky to define. They will compete for the coveted US$100,000 grand prize.
The first ever season of “Asia’s Got Talent” boasted of many talented contestants from the Philippines including the dazzling shadow play dancers El Gamma Penumbra that ultimately emerged victorious and stood heads and shoulders above everyone else. The group is now a sought-after international attraction.
Third placer Gerphil Flores, a classical crossover singer known for her powerful soprano voice, has likewise become a first-rate concert headliner since “Asia’s Got Talent” opened many doors for her.
With an all-new line-up of competing entertainers, the new season also brought new changes in the composition of the judges and hosts. With the departure of Melanie C and Vaness Wu, the judges’ chairs have been trimmed down to three. Returning judges David Foster and Anggun will be joined by a new face, Jay Park.
“I’m looking forward to be amazed, shocked, motivated and inspired,” exclaimed Park, an award-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and savvy entrepreneur, CEO and founder of two successful record labels.
Sixteen-time Grammy award-winning music producer Foster admits to being impressed with the world-class talent of the first season but vows to set his sights even higher as he expects to find “the next Asian international superstar.”
For her part, Indonesian and French-naturalized singer-songwriter Anggun is again looking forward to another exciting stint as an “Asia’s Got Talent” judge.
“I love seeing emerging talent from this part of the world. I wish every act all the very best for a great performance, and I hope that ‘Asia’s Got Talent’ can be the launching pad for their dreams to take flight,” she exclaimed.
This season will be hosted Singapore-based actor and models Alan Wong and Justin Bratton, who will take over from Filipino hosts Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez who also acted as the contestants’ cheerleaders from the sidelines.
Like Marc and Rovilson, Alan and Justin were blown away not only by the contestants’ talents but also by their equally amazing back stories.
“Every act that we meet has a story and a dream. We feel privileged to be supporting the region’s most outstanding performers as the hosts of Asia’s Got Talent,” said Alan.
Justin added, “AXN viewers will be blown away by the caliber of the acts this season. There is so much personality and energy, it’s a true reflection of the cultural diversity of our region.”
