On the same week that Megastar Sharon Cuneta confirmed that they’re going to do a movie again, actor Robin Padilla decided to watch her latest film, “Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha.”
In a lengthy Instagram post this Thursday, Robin was all praises for the quirky comedy directed by Mes de Guzman which is now having its regular theatrical run following a well-received stint as one of the entries to this year’s Cinemalaya film festival.
“[A]ng akala ko pareho lang ang aking magiging reaksyon katulad ng una ko itong pinanood pero hindi nagkaganon dahil mas nakita ko ang husay ng pagkakagawa nito lalo ang pagkakaganap ng mga artista. (I thought my reaction would be the same upon seeing it again but it wasn’t because I am more impressed with how well-made this film is particularly the performance of its cast),” Robin wrote.
“Napakagaan ng pelikula dahil sa komedya nito pero may lalim ang tinutumbok dahil katotohanan ng ating kultura at pag uugali bilang mga pilipino ang hagupit. Pagharap sa kalungkutan ng mga kababaihan bilang asawa at ina ang kamulatan ng obra na ito pati na rin ang pagiging magkaibgan na walang kapalit kundi damayan.”
(The movie feels light because it’s a comedy but at the same time, this is a certain depth because it depicts the truth about our culture and our traits as Filipinos. This masterpiece shows how a woman manifests her sadness as a longing wife and mother. It also shows a friendship that does not expect anything in return.)
The 47-year-old actor best known for his string of blockbuster action films in the ’80s and ’90s singled out the performance of Sharon, his leading lady in the hit movies “Maging Sino Ka Man” in 1991, “Di Na Natuto (Sorry Na, Puwede Ba)” in 1993, and “Pagdating ng Panahon” in 2001.
“Ibang iba si mam sharon dito mas naramdaman ko lalo ang mga dala dalang bagahe ng character niya kaya muli na naman akong napapalakpak sa confrontation scene niya sa mga nanloko sa kanya. (Sharon is so different here and I really felt the baggages that her character has to carry that’s why I had to again applaud her confrontation scene with the people who are trying to con her.)
During the press conference for “Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha” last September 4, Sharon confirmed that she and Robin will be doing a new movie for Star Cinema.
Describing Robin as her “favorite person to work with,” Sharon admitted that her “happiest shooting experiences” have always been with him.
Sharon and Robin fell in love during the making of “Maging Sino Ka Man” and during her recent concert at The Theatre in Solaire admitted that she almost came close to marrying him.
But while Sharon has reactivated her film career, Robin has not appeared in a feature film since his well-received portrayal of national hero Andres Bonifacio in “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo” in 2014.
The actor, however, remains visible in the public eye, mostly through his advocacies which includes his soft spot for Overseas Filipino Workers. As the global Filipino ambassador of Moneygram International, he recently graced the opening of its first OFW Center in Manila.
The new facility will be used to educate millions of OFWs about the importance of financial literacy to help prepare them for living abroad.
