It has been two years this month since Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza became the phenomenal love team that is now collectively referred to as AlDub.
Alden was already an established actor and matinee idol when he found himself crossing paths with Maine, then a Dubsmash YouTube sensation, at the Kalyeserye portion of noontime show “Eat Bulaga” back in 2015. Their tandem was embraced by the public, especially on social media where they became a daily trending topic on Twitter.
On October 24, 2015, AlDub made history when 55,000 fans hit the Philippine Arena and made #AlDubEBTamangPanahon the most used hashtag in 24 hours with more than 40 million tweets as identified by the Guinness Book of World Record.
Since then, the tandem has headlined two blockbuster films (“My Bebe Love” and “Imagine You and Me”), starred together in their own primetime teleserye, “Destined to be Yours,” and received countless accolades.
Last year, the pair was collectively honored with a People of the Year award from People Asia magazine. The same year, they also landed on the cover of Yes! 100 Most Beautiful Stars list which to date remains the bestselling special issue of the entertainment magazine.
But the big question remains, is AlDub still relevant in 2017? As far as social media netizens are concerned, the answer is still a resounding yes.
With over 40 local chapters in the country and another 40 plus international chapters all over the world, Alden and Maine have more than enough fans to keep them from falling off the radar. With over 769,000 followers on Twitter, the duo’s fan club, “OFC AlDub-Maiden Nation” (@mainealden16), leads a social network army responsible for keeping them trending every day.

Even as their social media buzz is showing no signs of slowing down, only time will tell if AlDub will remain an enduring love team in the hearts of fans in the years to come or if Alden and Maine’s onscreen chemistry will translate into an official relationship for real.
