Although his memorable lead turn in the ABS-CBN teleserye “Apoy sa Dagat” back in 2013 remains fresh in the minds of many, Diether Ocampo actually last appeared on TV5’s “Bakit Manipis ang Ulap” opposite Claudine Barretto last year.
Since then, the actor decided to take another hiatus from showbiz and kept a low profile. Now Diether is back in the limelight as he headlines a special Father’s Day episode of the GMA weekly drama anthology series, “Magpakailanman.”
Recently, the 43-year-old actor made himself accessible to media and revealed that he had done a lot of things during his break, including dabbling in digital photography and taking acting classes and workshops. He also spent a lot of time in the U.S. West Coast where he became a registered pilot.
But the lure of the limelight proved too much to resist as Diether admitted that he was elated to be back in front of the cameras.
In the episode where he plays a breastfeeding dad, Diether is paired with Miss World 2013 Megan Young.
“It’s basically about coping and survival, and it makes us realize that despite the good news that we see and hear everyday, there are still basically a lot of good and kind-hearted people around us. And of course, we can never ignore the power of prayer and faith in God,” the actor shared.
“I wouldn’t say it’s pure drama. It’s a feel-good story that crosses all boundaries. It deals with different issues. I’m pretty sure a lot of people will be able to relate to it.”
Diether admits that working with Megan made the “Magpakailanman” experience even more rewarding for him as he himself was surprised with their onscreen chemistry.
“I’ve seen some of her previous works as well, and she registers well on screen,” he quipped.
While Diether, who is officially managed by Arnold Vegafria’s ALV Talent Circuit, would not yet confirm if his guest stint in “Magpakailanman” now makes him an official Kapuso talent, he is hopeful that GMA would give him more projects. He is also looking forward to working with the network’s talents in the days to come.
As for the current affairs of his heart, Diether admitted in an interview with “Unang Hirit” that he is loveless at the moment but hopes to find the right girl at the right time. For now, he says he is “in love” with his work.
“Magpakailanman” airs this Saturday night, June 17 on GMA Network.
