Less than a year since its celebrated Cinemalaya premiere, Eduardo Roy, Jr.’s “Pamilya Ordinaryo” continues to be honored in the international film festival circuit.
The acclaimed drama about a homeless teenage couple added two more feathers in its cap as lead stars Hasmine Killip and Ronwaldo Martin won the Best Actress and Best Actor awards at the conclusion of the 12th Harlem International Film Festival in New York City Monday Manila time.
This is Killip’s fifth international recognition following wins at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Hanoi International Film Festival, Oporto International Film Festival and Special Jury for Performance at the London East Asia Film Festival.
This is the first acting recognition for Martin, younger brother of A-list actor Coco Martin.
“Pamilya Ordinaryo” debuted on the big screen in last year’s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival where it won several awards including Best Film.
It went on to win the prestigious Premio del Pubblico BNL or Audience Prize award at the independently run Venice Days section of the Venice International Film Festival.
Aside from its acting honors, the film also won two special jury mentions in directing at the London East Asia Film Festival in the United Kingdom as well as the award for Best Director for Eduardo Roy Jr. at the Hanoi International Film Festival in Vietnam.
Founded in 2005, the Harlem International Film Festival is dedicated to “showcasing some of the best films from around the world.” The festival’s board of advisors include Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon, Oscar nominated filmmaker Mira Nair and Obie winning playwright Eve Ensler.
