Actor Romeo Vasquez, a matinee idol of Philippine cinema in the 1950s and ’60s, has died in the U.S. He was 78.
Vasquez’s demise was reported on Wednesday in separate Instagram posts by his granddaughter, fashion stylist Alyanna Martinez, and his son-in law and Alyanna’s father, actor Albert Martinez.
“Reunited now in heaven with Mama on her 32nd wedding anniversary #LoloBobby,” Alyanna wrote in the caption.
Her post came with a photo of Vasquez dancing with her late mother, actress Liezl Sumilang-Martinez, during the latter’s wedding day in 1985. Liezl died two years ago.
Another post showed Alyanna’s hand holding that of Vasquez, who died in his bed at a Kaiser Permanente hospital. Kaiser Permanente is a known hospital chain in the U.S.
“My Father-in-Law. My best friend. You will be missed,” Albert wrote in his post.
Vasquez, born Roberto Sumilang, was married to movie queen Amalia Fuentes. He was best known for his movies, “Pretty Boy” (1957), “Ako Ang Maysala” (1958), “Maruja” and “Vizconde Massacre” (1994).
