Actress Gabbi Garcia took to Instagram on Friday, August 29, to share video highlights from her recent overseas travels.
The post was perceived by some as a subtle shade amid growing criticism of content creators and relatives of government officials flaunting lavish lifestyles online, following the probe into “ghost” flood control projects.
“Rich in life ’cause I can travel the world and live my best days with my own hard-earned money,” the text on Gabbi’s video read.
“Yes to hard-earned money and self-made queens!” she also captioned her post.

Many lauded Gabbi for “flexing” the travels from her hard-earned money.
“Exactly. Hard earned money,” broadcast journalist Karen Davila commented with fire emoji.
“Amen!” actress Max Collins said.
“This is the only acceptable flex! hard earned money,” Kapuso actor Gil Cuerva wrote.
“Let’s go sis!” Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel said.
“As you should girl! Hindi galing sa kaban ng bayan!” one Instagram user wrote.
“YAAAS. Pwedeng mag post and flaunt basta hindi galing sa taxpayers’ money!” another added.
Gabbi’s reel has so far garnered 1 million views, 92,100 likes, over 3,200 reposts, almost 1,300 comments and over 1,878 shares.
Several social media personalities, particularly those related to government officials allegedly linked to the controversial flood control projects under investigation, are under fire online. Online have been calling out their displays of lavish lifestyles, which are widely perceived as being funded by corruption.
Many celebrities and personalities have also spoken out against the flaunting of wealth on social media, urging influencers and public figures to be more mindful and responsible, especially amid growing public scrutiny and calls for accountability.
“My feed filled with posts on the lavish lifestyle of kids of corrupt officials…. and here we are, mga walang generational wealth o nakaw na yaman, na kumakayod araw araw, na minsa’y nahihiya pa magpost ng travel o ng nabili kasi baka “mayabang” ang dating. paano ba to?” TV host Bianca Gonzalez Intal wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“KURAKOT SHAMING. It’s high time. Sa ibang bansa, ang nagnanakaw sa gobyerno nakukulong o naghaharakiri. Sa Pilipinas, kina-iinggitan. Tama na,” Davila posted on X.
