Pia Wurtzbach, Margie Moran and Gloria Diaz, the other three Filipino Miss Universe titleholders, had their own take on Catriona Gray’s feat winning much-coveted crown.
Wurtzbach was able to praise Gray personally in the city of Bangkok in Thailand as seen in her Instagram photo. The 2015 Miss Universe titleholder said Gray was “on fire.”
“This girl is on fire! You started strong and captured our hearts with your grace, commitment and fearlessness! And that walk…how could anyone forget that walk?” Wurtzbach said.
“This is just the beginning. Congratulations, Miss Universe 2018 @catriona_gray! You have made us all proud! Raise your flag!” she added.
Diaz and Moran, according to a report from ABS-CBN, described Gray’s performance as “outstanding.”
Diaz, the first Filipino to be crowned Miss Universe in 1969, said Gray deserves the title.
“Amazing! She’s gorgeous and outstanding from the start! Well-deserved victory!” she said.
Moran, meanwhile, specifically lauded Gray’s “lava walk” and the message she conveyed in the final round.
“It was a tough competition. But Catriona was outstanding in her walk and performance in the question and answer!” she said.
Moran won the Miss Universe title in 1973.
Q&As of the past
During the time of Moran and Diaz, the questions at the prestigious beauty contest were shorter and hypothetical.
In 1969, Diaz was asked what she would do if ever a man from the moon landed in her hometown.
She answered, “Oh, just the same things I do. I think if he has been on the moon for so long, I think when he comes over he wants to change, I guess.”
Then, in 1973, Moran pondered on the first thing she would buy if ever she had a million dollars.
A “house and lot,” was her reply, since she said she could not afford one for herself and for other people.
