The origins of Captain Marvel

Air force pilot Carol Danvers in the comics is just the second person to don the mantle of Captain Marvel.

The original Captain Marvel, a member of the Kree race named Mar-vell, was Marvel’s frontline superhero for intergalactic story arcs before being killed off in the 1980s.

Jude Law will play Mar-vell, who will serve as Danvers’ mentor in the movie.

The character of Carol Danvers imbibed the powers of Captain Marvel when she was dragged into a battle between the Avengers and alien invaders after she was accidentally knocked into a device that mutated her into a superhuman being with the genes of the powerful Kree race.
