Former “American Idol 7” runner-up David Archuleta wowed fans when he shared a stripped-down version of “Crush” on social media, marking the song’s tenth anniversary since its release.

“I thought it would be fun to play a ten-year anniversary acoustic piano version… for all of you to celebrate,” Archuleta said.

He also shared some facts about the single on a separate Twitter thread.

Archuleta revealed that he first heard the song being played on the radio when it premiered on the “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show” in New York City.

He recalled, “I had a bundle of emotions that day… I was nervous and excited all at the same time!”

The singer also shared that the song was co-written by “three incredible writers,” namely Jess Cates, David Hodges and Emanuel Kiriakou.

Archuleta exclaimed, “I’m so thankful for their amazing talents because without them the song would have not (sic) existed!”

He also clarified some lyrics that were often misheard by listeners. According to him, “it’s ‘is it real or just another crush’ NOT ‘is it really just another crush.'”

Lastly, Archuleta shared that he was not familiar with “pop music with rhythm.” As such, he was “proud” of how the song had turned out, earning lots of raves and high position in music charts.

The appeal of ‘Crush’

“Crush” is a pop song that became Archuleta’s single for his first album after joining “American Idol 7.” It was released in August 2008.

The song was warmly received in general terms. Billboard magazine called it a “hummable, age-appropriate midtempo pop ditty for the 17-year-old.”

Entertainment Weekly referred to the song as “surprisingly good!” It noted, “David adroitly walks the line between giving his core fans their fill of vocal runs while showing enough restraint that he won’t automatically alienate non-Idol-loving listeners.”

USA Today praised Archuleta’s singing style, liking the “effortless glides into falsetto and some rousing moments in the bridge and chorus.”

Archuleta gained fame after he won as runner-up in “American Idol 7” in 2008. He has since released seven albums in his music career, with his latest titled “Postcards in the Sky.” It was released in October 2017.
