MANILA, Philippines — Two Canadians were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined P500,000 each after being found guilty of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Judge Selma Palacios Alaras found James Clayton Riach and Ali Memar Mortazavi Shirazi guilty beyond reasonable doubt of possessing methamphetamine hydrochloride, or “shabu.”
The two were arrested when authorities raided their condominium unit in 2014, seizing the shabu and other drugs such as ecstasy and cocaine.
Authorities said the two had links to a Mexican drug cartel.
