Several large Makati firms sued for tax evasion

MANILA, Philippines — Several firms based in Makati City, including a company engaged in building power plants, were sued for tax evasion by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Mirae Asia Energy Corp. and its officials Christopher Walter Lim, Craig Oliver Marsh and Sung Woo Yang also alleged faked the firm’s importer’s clearance certificate, the BIR said. The offense could lead to jail terms.

SKI Construction Group, a construction firm engaged in infrastructure, nuclear, petrochemical, electronics and mass transit projects, and its officials Claudio Altura, Albert Altura and Cornelio Caedo were charged for allegedly not paying is P206-million tax liability.

So was Y.N. General Services and its officials Ernesto Navo, Ermelita Navo and Eliza Eleonor Navo, who have a tax liability of P15 million.

The BIR said Li Xiang Seafood Resturant is not registered as a business, while its owner, Steven Ang Co, is listed as a “one-time transaction” taxpayer only.

Co also allegedly issued receipts in the name of Lilia Biado, who is listed as the owner of Azeroth Restaurant.
