MANILA – Someday, his best friends and family hope, this bright, amiable, well-mannered senator will “win” the heart of the right woman. But for now, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian will repeat what he has done the past 10 Valentine’s Days: go home early and sleep.

Senator “Win” was at the receiving end of gentle ribbing from peers at the Senate on Wednesday, especially after he failed to respond quickly to an issue raised on the floor and which one senator referred the matter to him. A colleague joked partly in Filipino, “please let’s be patient with him because it’s Valentine’s and that’s why he does not seem to be himself today.”

The senator, who’s in his early forties, said later he’s been dateless the past 10 Valentine’s and sighed that maybe he’s just not that lucky — yet.

He said close friend Sen. Joel Villanueva, a provincemate from Bulacan, will definitely be happy on Valentine’s evening in the company of his wife, but as for him, he’ll just go home early.

Still, Gatchalian held out the hope that he will meet “the right one” in 2018. But for now, he’ll just have to wait it out.

Meanwhile, Sen. Manny Pacquiao said he was gifting wife of 20 years Jinkee flowers, chocolates and a card with a special message and a dedication of “I love you.”.

Pacquiao greeted everyone a Happy Valentine’s and the born-again Christian urged them to love one another the whole year through, not just on Valentine’s.
