(UPDATED – 10:39 p.m.) MANILA, Philippines — The 85-year-old father of Karapatan deputy secretary general Jigs Clamor, who had been missing since late last week, was found Monday morning, February 5, the human rights group said.

Karapatan secretary general Cristina Palabay said Benjamin Clamor was found in Quiapo, Manila. His family said the elder Clamor was suffering from diabetes mellitus type II and chronic kidney disease, left their home in Barangka, Marikina last Thursday, February 1.

Local village watchers or “tanods” noticed him in front of a barangay councilor’s house where he stayed for almost four days.

The tanods, who thought that he had a relative of a resident in the area, approached Clamor and asked him where he lived. They then offered him help and brought him back to Brgy. Barangka in Marikina.

“Two barangay tanods, two kagawads and a barangay secretary from Brgy. 393 Zone 40, Third District of Manila brought Tatay Benjamin to his family’s house at around 11:15 p.m. on Feb 4, 2018. Maraming salamat sa mga barangay officials at tanod ng Brgy. 393, Manila [We thank the officials and watchmen of Brgy. 393 very much],” Karapatan said.
