MANILA, Philippines — Don’t you dare go bare in Quezon City or pay a fine of up to P5,000 or go behind bars for a year or longer.
The local government has recently passed Ordinance 2623-2017 banning people from roaming around naked in the city’s public places.
“There are people oblivious to the senses, feelings, and emotions of others who are displaying, walking or roaming around in public places topless, bottomless or completely naked. Naked persons in public places erode decency, exacerbates disorder, and setting a bad example to children,” read the ordinance authored by Councilor Ranulfo Ludovica.
Section 4 of the ordinance states that a first time offender will be fined P1,000 or will be asked to render community service in the barangay where the violator lives.
Second time violators will be slapped with a fine of P1,500 or community service of five days.
If the ordinance is violated for the third time, the fine would be P3,000 or an imprisonment of six months.
The fourth and subsequent offenses would mean a P5,000-penalty or an imprisonment of one year or more at the discretion of the court.
Meanwhile, mentally ill people caught in violation of this ordinance will be apprehended but shall be exempt from any penalty.
