MANILA – The Supreme Court on Tuesday consolidated two separate petitions lodged against the passage of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act, or TRAIN.

These are the petitions filed by the Makabayan Bloc of legislators and LABAN Consumer, arguing that there was no actual quorum at the House of Representatives when the measure was enacted, and that the law was not in the interest of the masses.

The petitions essentially asked the Supreme Court to issue a temporary restraining order to block the implementation of the tax reform statute.

The high court gave 10 days for the rejoinder of the respondents, which include President Rodrigo Duterte and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
