Two bus passengers died while at least 15 others were hurt when a Victory Liner bus lost control up the winding Marcos Highway at the town of Tuba on the way to Baguio City, hitting a power line post on Monday afternoon, January 22.
The bus originated from Manila.
One of the fatalities was reported to be the bus conductor. Most of the injured passengers were brought to Baguio General Hospital for medical treatment.
The management of Victory Liner issued a statement indicating that “our Baguio-bound buses, with body number 7099, traversed the highway at Sitio Bayacsan, Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet when it encountered serious trouble on the curved portion of the highway.”
Drivers who frequent the site of the accident often describe the place as Baguio’s killer curve, Victory Liner said.
“The driver maneuvered but rammed the bus into a post, causing the incident. As of press time, our driver is now with the custody of the police.
“We were informed that one of the fatalities is our bus conductor and another was a passenger. Four passengers are also being treated in the hospital. They sustained minor injuries and are being given proper medical attention.
“We deployed our emergency team composed of several company representatives to the Baguio hospital to ascertain the condition of passengers and provide them with fast and sufficient medical and financial assistance. Uninjured passengers were safely assisted as well.
“We are cooperating closely with our police and traffic authorities by providing them with all the information necessary to complete their investigation about the accident.
“We are likewise, conducting our own probe. Upon completion, we will provide authorities with an investigation report.
“As a valuable member of the Baguio community, we empathize with the people affected by this accident and we will work hard with the community to avoid such accidents in the future,” Victory Liner concluded.
