COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Several clans belonging to the Iranun tribe in the first district of Maguindanao province settled a more than decade-old “rido” or feud that had claimed at least seven lives.
The settlement ceremony in Barira town was presided over by 603rd Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier General Jesus Sarsagat, chairman of the Iranun Inter Agency Task Force, and 37th Infantry Battalion commander Colonel Florencio Pulitod Jr.
Mayors of Maguindanao’s Iranun towns, among them Abdulradzak Tomawis of Barira, Abolais Manalao of Buldon and Ibrahim Ibay of Parang also attended the ceremony that saw the Macapaar, Macapeges, Ramalan and Salik clans and their estwhile foes, the Malambut, Hadji Salam, Hadji Rahaman, Macarimbang and Castro clans, swore on the Koran to end their feud.
The once warring clans also surrendered several firearms.
