WATCH | TV news hen, crew hurt in EDSA-Shaw vehicular accident

Circumscribed in the map is the junction of EDSA and Shaw Boulevard.

Six persons, including Abs-Cbn reporter Doris Bigornia and her crew, were hurt Thursday afternoon after figuring in a vehicular accident involving their service crew cab and a Montero sports utility van.

The incident happened at the northbound at grade lane of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) near the corner of Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.

Edison Nebrija Jr., MMDA Supervising Officer for Operations, told reporters that Bigornia and one of her news crew members, identified as Marcopolo Gutierrez, were rushed to Medical City in Pasig City after sustaining “minor head and body injuries.”

Nebrija said that Bigornia and Gutierrez were with four other persons on board their media vehicle en route to an event coverage in Cubao, Quezon City when the errant Mitsubishi Montero sports utility van hit.

Most of the victims sustained minor head and body injuries.

The incident, happened at around 1:45 p.m., and caused a heavy traffic jam on both lanes of EDSA for at least four hours.

The multiple vehicles involved in the incident included two Mitsubishi Montero sports utility vans, a Toyota Vios doing service as a Grab car, a Mitsubishi Mirage, a motorcycle and the crew cab van of Bigornia and her crew.

“The traffic jam on EDSA southbound stretched all the way back to Kamuning Road (Quezon City) while the northbound traffic reached all the way to Ayala Avenue (Makati City),” Nebrija said.

He said the MMDA, in close coordination with the Eastern Police District – Traffic Management Office, will be conducting an investigation into the matter.
