LUCENA CITY, Philippines — A barangay captain of Lucena City, Quezon was shot dead Tuesday morning, November 14.

Eduardo H. Berina, 50, who was popularly known as “Kapitan Paga,” died immediately from two shots to the head from still unknown killers as he exited the gate of the house of one Elizabeth Hadley on Amethyst St. in Barangay Ilayang Iyam, of which he was chairman, at around 6:45 a.m.

Quezon police director Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento said Berina managed to run inside the gate but the gunmen followed and shot him by the house’s front door.

Friends of Berina said they had last talked to him around 11 p.m. Monday about his plans to celebrate his birthday on November 23.

Lucena Mayor Roderick Alcala said he noticed Berina looking sad when he attended Monday’s flag ceremony.
