Lao PM arrives at Clark for ASEAN Summit

CLARK FIELD, Philippines – (UPDATED) Lao PDR Prime Minister Thoungloun Sisoulith arrived in this former military base Sunday morning, the first arrival for the day of over a dozen world leaders attending the 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, and the third who flew in at the weekend.

Department of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda welcomed the Lao PDR Prime Minister. Hundreds of Filipino schoolchildren performed cultural numbers as part of the welcome festivities.

PM Sisoulith’s plane landed at 10:27 a.m. at the Clark International Airport, where two other ASEAN leaders had touched down on Saturday afternoon: Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and Myanmar State Counsellor and Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.

The heads of state and government of the ASEAN members and the regional bloc’s dialogue partners including US President Donald Trump will be feted at a gala dinner hosted by President Rodrigo Duterte Sunday night, to mark the 50th anniversary of ASEAN.- with a report by Camille Aguinaldo, InterAksyon
