‘Quedan’, ITCZ to bring rains, thunderstorms to most of country

MANILA, Philippines — Although not expected to make landfall, the outer rainbands of tropical storm “Quedan will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Visayas and the Bicol region.

Similar conditions are forecast for Palawan and Mindanao, which continue to be affected by the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned that possible strong winds and occasionally heavy rains, accompanied by lightning, may cause flooding and landslides in these areas as well as Aurora and Quezon provinces.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon should expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

Quedan (international name: Saola) was last tracked 1,250 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora packing maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour near the center with gusts of up to 95 kph as it moved northwest at 21 kph.

Pagasa said waters surrounding Palawan, the Visayas and Luzon will be moderate to rough and slight to moderate off Mindanao.
