MANILA – A magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook Batangas province late Sunday, but there was no reported damage, the Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology said.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin, with depth of focus of 197 kms. Its epicenter was detected west of Lian town.
It was felt at Intensity 1 in Tagaytay City and in Calumpit, Bulacan.
According to Phivolcs, aftershocks were expected.
Batangas had been the site of several relatively strong earthquakes the past few months, with the strongest recorded at magnitude 6 in Mabini town on April 8.
