Satisfaction with the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs remains at a “very good” net satisfaction rating of +63, according to the Third Quarter 2017 Social Weather Survey, conducted from September 23 to 27.
SWS said 77 percent of respondents to the survey said they were satisfied with the Duterte government’s campaign against illegal drugs, while 14 percent expressed dissatisfaction. This leads to the +63 net satisfaction rating (% satisfied minus % dissatisfied).
This is a 2-point decline from the +65 “very good” rating in June.
The SWS terminology for net satisfaction ratings is as follows: +70 and above, “excellent”; +50 to +69, “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”, +9 to –9, “neutral”; –10 to –29, “poor”; –30 to –49, “bad”; –50 to –69, “very bad”; –70 and below, “execrable.”
Meanwhile, 71 percent of respondents said they perceive the presence of fewer drug addicts in their area compared to six months ago, while 9 percent said there were more, and 12 percent said the number was the same.
The largest proportion of those who see fewer drug addicts now compared to 6 months ago was in Mindanao, where 85 percent said there were less drug addicts now, 3 percent said there were more, and 7 percent said it was the same.
This is followed by Balance Luzon (68 percent less, 8 percent more, and 14 percent same), Metro Manila (66 percent less, 15 percent more, 16 percent same), and the Visayas (65 percent less, 13 percent more, 14 percent same).
The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews of 1,500 adults nationwide: 600 in Balance Luzon, 300 in Metro Manila, 300 in the Visayas, and 300 in Mindanao.
They were asked the following questions:
“Maaari po bang pakisabi ninyo kung gaano kayo nasisiyahan o hindi nasisiyahan sa kasalukuyang kampanya ng administrasyon laban sa illegal na droga. Kayo ba ay… [SHOW CARD] LUBOS NA NASISIYAHAN, MEDYO NASISIYAHAN, HINDI TIYAK KUNG NASISIYAHAN O HINDI, MEDYO HINDI NASISIYAHAN, O LUBOS NA HINDI NASISIYAHAN?” (“Please tell me how satisfied or dissatisfied you are with the performance of the administration in its campaign against illegal drugs. Are you… [SHOW CARD]?”)
“Kung ikukumpara ang kasalukuyang dami ng mga drug addict sa inyong lugar sa nakaraang 6 na buwan, masasabi ba ninyo na ang dami ng drug addict sa inyong lugar ay… [READ OUT] MAS MADAMI NGAYON KAYSA NOON, KAPAREHO NG DATI, o MAS KAUNTI NGAYON KAYSA NOON.” (“Comparing the current number of drug addicts in your locality to how it was 6 months ago, would you say that the number of drug addicts in your locality is… [READ OUT] MORE, SAME, LESS?”)
SWS explained that the 2-point decline in nationwide satisfaction with the anti-illegal drug campaign in September “was due to decreased support in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon, offset by increased support in Mindanao and in the Visayas.”
Net satisfaction was highest in Mindanao, increasing by 11 points from +66 (79 percent satisfied, 12 percent dissatisfied) in June to +77 (85 percent satisfied, 7 percent dissatisfied) in September.
It increased by 4 points in the Visayas, from +64 (78 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied) in June to +68 (80 percent satisfied, 12 percent dissatisfied) in September.
But it fell by 16 points in Metro Manila, from +77 (86 percent satisfied, 9 percent dissatisfied) in June 2017, to +61 (77 percent satisfied, 16 percent dissatisfied) in September.
It fell by 7 points in Balance Luzon, from +61 (75 percent satisfied, 14 percent dissatisfied) in June to +54 (72 percent satisfied, 17 percent dissatisfied) in September.
